OUTMARK Privacy Policy

OUTMARK ("we", "our", or "us") is a GPS field-logging app for hunters and outdoorsmen. This policy explains what data is collected when you use OUTMARK, where it goes, and how it is used.

1. Data Stored on Your Device

Your pins — precise GPS coordinates, timestamps, categories, and notes — are stored locally on your device using the operating system's secure storage. To protect against data loss when you reinstall the app or switch phones, Cloud Backup is enabled by default, which stores an encrypted copy of this data in your private account (see below). You can turn Cloud Backup off at any time in Settings, after which your pins stay only on your device unless you explicitly share them with another hunter.

2. Data We Collect on Our Servers

When you create an account or use account-based features, the following data is stored in our database:

Account information — email address and a unique account identifier (provided via Clerk authentication)
Profile information — the username and display name that you choose
Cloud backup (on by default) — Cloud Backup is enabled by default so your data survives a reinstall or phone switch. It stores a copy of your pins (precise GPS coordinates, timestamps, categories, and notes), your folders, your deleted-items trash, your pin photos, and your app preferences (such as units, theme, and your custom categories) in your private account, encrypted in transit. You can disable backup at any time in Settings, which removes the backed-up copy from our servers.
Shared pins — the GPS coordinates, category, timestamp, and notes of pins you explicitly send to another user; pins you receive are removed from our servers once you accept or decline them
Connections — the usernames you connect with, and pending/accepted connection requests, so the social features work
Shared folders — folders you create or join and the pins placed inside them, visible to the folder's members
Push notification token — if you allow notifications, a device push token so we can alert you about incoming pins and connection requests

We do not sell, rent, or share this data with advertisers or data brokers.

3. Third-Party SDKs and Partners

OUTMARK uses the following third-party services, each of which may collect data subject to their own privacy policies:

Clerk (Authentication)

Clerk powers account sign-up and sign-in. Clerk collects and stores your email address and authentication session data.

RevenueCat (Subscriptions)

RevenueCat manages in-app purchase entitlements. RevenueCat collects device identifiers, App Store transaction IDs, and subscription status. RevenueCat does not collect your GPS data.

Mapbox (Maps)

Mapbox renders the satellite map view. When the map is loaded, Mapbox receives map tile requests which may include your approximate location in order to load the correct tiles.

Open-Meteo (Weather)

Weather, wind, and forecast data are fetched directly from Open-Meteo using the coordinates of the area you're viewing. Only those coordinates are sent — no account identifier accompanies the request.

Expo (Push Notifications)

Push notifications — connection requests, shared pins, and live-location alerts — are delivered through Expo's push service, which receives your device push token to route the notification. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

4. Location Data

OUTMARK requests location permission to capture precise GPS coordinates when you log a pin. Background location is used for one purpose only: if you start a Live Location sharing session, the app keeps posting your position to the hunting partners you chose — even while the app is in the background — until the time window you picked ends or you stop sharing. We never collect background location outside a sharing session you started. Your precise location is:

Stored locally on your device for your own use
Stored in your private account via Cloud Backup, which is on by default and can be disabled in Settings
Transmitted to our servers when you explicitly share a pin, add it to a shared folder, or while a Live Location sharing session you started is active
Never sent to advertising networks or analytics platforms

5. Data Retention and Deletion

You are in control of your data:

Local data — clear your pins and history any time from Settings → "Clear All Data".
Your account — delete your entire account from Settings → "Delete Account". This permanently removes your account, profile, cloud backup (including backed-up pin photos), shared pins, connections, shared folders you own, and push tokens from our servers, and deletes your Clerk identity. This action cannot be undone.

If you are unable to use in-app deletion, you may also contact us at the address below and we will remove your data within 30 days.

6. Children's Privacy

OUTMARK is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the current version.
